Under the auspices of Rabbi Wineberg, director of Lubavitch Chabad of British Columbia, there are currently Ten Chabad centers in the province, Chabad Nanaimo being the most recent addition.
Rabbi Shmuel Hecht, the ninth in a family of thirteen children, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He received his rabbinical ordination from the Central Chabad Rabbinical Court in Israel. While completing his degree, Rabbi Hecht served in a variety of community outreach leadership roles. He was the founder and director of an at- risk teen Jewish teen camp in Southern California. He also coordinated worldwide Chabad youth conventions, and Jewish holiday programs and summer camps for the State of Illinois and in the Ukraine.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Fraidy Hecht is the youngest of 10 children, who are all prominent Chabad emissaries around the world. She graduated from high school in Chicago with honors and went on to a year of studies in a women’s teaching seminary in Israel. Fraidy directed summer camps in the Ukraine, Germany and the USA. After spending a year in Oklahoma City as a teacher and program director, Fraidy earned a reputation as a talented and beloved educator. She went on to work as an assistant high school principal and master teacher in Detroit and is currently teaching in an innovative worldwide home schooling program.
