How is Chabad Okanagan funded?
Our $240,000 annual budget is entirely funded from donors like you.
There is no central organization that provides us with funding.
It is the full responsibility of Rabbi and Mrs. Hecht to raise the entire budget, including their own salary, from local donors, grants and friends.
What is the New Mobile Chabad House?
As our community is currently looking for a new Centre to call home, we knew it wasn't by chance that we were put in such a situation.
We knew G-d wanted us to create something new, that will be able to continue, long after we are settled in our -please G-d- brand new Centre!
To meet the calling we decided to expand our efforts and double our reach by inventing The Okanagan Mobile Chabad House, that will be a Jewish Centre for our people who used to be isolated all throughout the Valley, but thank G-d, with The New Mobile Chabad House, are not isolated anymore.
We are British Columbia's very first and only Jewish Centre on wheels!
This project has added over $500,000.00 to our annual budget -collectively- over just the next five years alone!
But we did it, because we're committed!
Our Mobile Chabad House offers:
1. An on board Kosher cafe, with coffee, pastries, Challah and drinks.
2. On board Judaica Store.
3. On board Kosher meat, Chicken and food sales.
4. On board Ark and Synagogue.
5. On board Lounge Area.
6. Children's Area.
7. Wheelchair accessibility.
8. Tents for outdoor events.
8. Challah Sales beyond Kelowna.
And much more.
With HaShem's help, this new Jewish Home on Wheels will service our people throughout the entire Valley, providing them with a place that they can call their very own Jewish home away from home.
With monthly visits to areas all throughout the Valley, this awesome home on wheels has already touched, and will continue to touch unprecedented numbers of people, who never dreamed of being able to say things like:
"I have a Rabbi even in this small little town!"
"He even brings the Centre right to my doorstep!"
Today- they can say it! And they do say it!
How did Chabad Okanagan Double their efforts in Covid?
In addition to ending isolation for Jewish people in rural Okanagan as you just read, we did the following.
1. Over 1000 loaves of FREE bread distribution to ALL (in March, April and May when yeast was scarce, and many people were in desperate need.)
2. FREE mask distribution to ALL when there were none available. We ordered a special rush order from China, benefiting hundreds in our community.
3. FREE hand sanitizer distribution to ALL when there were none available, we obtained large quantities from a private company in Vancouver, benefiting hundreds in our community.
4. FREE grocery deliveries for ALL, to seniors and immunocompromised individuals in our community.
5.Hand Delivered FREE fully loaded packages for Passover to over 200 in our community, with Matzah, Holiday guides, Food, (Brand New Haggadahs for children) and many Full Brisket dinners for over 100 Jewish people in our community to bring the Holiday celebration during Covid.
6. FREE deliveries from our brand new Passover Online store, with over 50 items avialable for sale.
7. Constant phone calls and staying in touch on a regular basis! Average of 100 calls and emails a week.
8. Hand Delivered FREE Shavuot Holiday Packages for over 200 in our community, including a beautiful Holiday guide, a full delicious Holiday cake and more, to bring the Holiday celebration during Covid.
9. Hand Delivered FREE Shabbat Packages for over 200 in our community, including a beautiful hard cover book all about HOW-TO-DO Shabbat awesomely, kugel, salad, desserts, Challah, candles and more.
10. Mailed out FREE Rosh HaShanah ALIVE Packages to over 200 in our community, including DIY Shana Tova Canvas Art, Beautiful full colour Holiday guide, Food, Treats and more, to brighten the communities High Holidays in lockdown.
11. The Only Okanagan In-Person Covid Safe Rosh HaShana services with two Doctors present overseeing the service. Including one Bar Mitzvah!
12. FREE POP UP Kosher Sub Station to bring the Joy and celebration of Sukkot to over 150 people in our community during Covid.
13. Hand Delivered FREE Chanukah Packages, including a Holiday Guide, Candles, Dreidel, Treats, chocolate gelt and more to over 200 in our community.
14. FREE menorahs distribution to ALL.
15. ZOOM Menorah Lightings each night.
16. 10th Annual Menorah Lighting Downtown by City Hall with M.L.A. Renee Merrifield, over zoom.
17. FREE Chanukah Drive Through Spectacular Event, bringing unprecedented feedback and joy over Chanukah for all.
18. ZOOM Torah Classes including 50 individuals from all over the Okanagan.
19. Many many LIVE Zoom guest speakers and events!
20. We also continued all of our regular services, including one-on-one studies which tripled upon moving to ZOOM, Mezuzah placement, counseling, Shabbat Challah Sales, Food Drive for families, Food for the homeless, and all other Jewish needs and services.
21. ZOOM talks and Covid safe in-person visits to several schools, encouraging inclusion and providing upliftedness for children in our community.
22. All of the above included our people from all over the Okanagan including, Nelson, Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton, Osoyoos, and many MANY more towns in between!
Our plans are to keep doing more, and MORE, AND MORE!
